Why do you dismiss school early every Monday?

School lets out at 1:00 p.m. every Monday to allow time for staff development. We understand the importance of a first-quality education for every student. Staff development day allows time for ongoing training and skills improvement for every person who interacts with your child.

Can my child ride the school bus?

The bus will transport any child who lives more than one mile from the school. The school does not charge for bus service. Please call the school office to get specific information for your location and to arrange for your child to ride the bus.

What do you do to ensure that children behave themselves on the bus?

We teach students that bus riding is a privilege. Drivers set rules of conduct and communicate them to the riders. The driver reports unruly or inconsiderate conduct, disobedience, and defiance of driver authority to the principal for correction.

What do you do to keep my child safe at school?

Keeping your child safe at school is a priority for our staff and the site council. That's why we require all visitors to check in at the office. No child may leave the campus without a parent. We also consistently supervise recess and deal with student behavior at recess or in the classroom fairly and consistently. Our children also drill moving from one place to another on campus so they will be prepared in case of an emergency.

What should I do if my child must be absent?

Please call (928) 502.7730 by 8:15 a.m. This assures us that your child is safe and allows us to prepare assignments for your child to make up the work that he/she missed. We encourage students to be at school by giving perfect attendance awards. Of course, if your child is ill, absence is necessary.

How can my child make up work missed due to absences?

The daily interchange of ideas and information in the classroom is a vital part of your child's education. We understand, however, that sometimes children must be absent. Teachers gladly work with students by providing make-up work.

What if my child is late to school?

If your child is going to be tardy, please call (928) 502.7730. Your child must then get a late pass from the office upon arrival. We encourage all students to be on time. If your child has a doctor's appointment, we will consider the tardy excused. A child with an unexcused tardy will miss recess. Tardy children aren't eligible for perfect attendance awards.

What if my child needs to leave school early?

Please come into the school office and sign your child out. Price School does not dismiss children to walk alone to appointments or home.

May my child ride her bicycle to school?

Yes. When your child arrives at school, he or she should place the bicycle in the bike rack. Youth Service children park inside the playground to allow for easy dismissal. We encourage our students to use their bicycle locks during the day. Your children should take their helmets with them to the classroom.

Does Price have a dress code?

We expect students to dress appropriately for the school environment. Students must wear shoes. We expect students to use good judgment in choosing clothing that will not disrupt learning. In addition to the current Yuma School District dress code policies, any other clothing that a teacher or staff member feels is a distraction to the school environment and learning will fall under this policy, to include:

  • Shorts and skirts must be at or below fingertips
  • Caps may be worn outdoors only, and bill must face forward
  • Apparel/accessories (including chains, jewelry, and bandanas) that can damage school property, be considered gang-related, or be used as a potential weapon, are not acceptable school attire
  • Dress that communicates the promotion of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, violence, vulgarity, profanity, or that is disparaging to gender, or that has a sexual connotation is not acceptable school attire
  • Midriffs must be covered and tank tops must have at least 2-inch straps
  • Revealing clothing is not acceptable school attire
  • Underwear shall not be visible
  • Sagging pants are not acceptable school attire
  • Long belts must be tucked into belt loops

Is there a limit on how many books my child may check out of the library?

Each class visits the library weekly. Your child may check out two books at a time. After your child has returned all books, she may check out additional books. Please take care of any fees for lost or damaged books promptly so your child may keep borrowing books.

May my child bring personal items to school?

Students must bring some personal items to school, such as coats, sweaters, lunch pails, and notebooks. Please clearly mark your child's name on these items. This helps us return lost items to their owners. Students may not bring radios, electronic games, tape recorders or other music players, expensive jewelry, or large sums of money to school.

May I send treats to school for my child's birthday or special occasion?

We appreciate that your child would enjoy celebrating with friends; however, we must discourage celebrations at school. New nutrition guidelines for student wellness do not allow most party food. Please do not send gifts such as toys or balloons to school. We also ask that you do not pass out party invitations at school. Our educational time is limited and valuable, so it is best that such celebrations occur during family time rather than school time.

How often do you let me know how my child is doing in school?

At a minimum, we give you formal reports on your child's educational progress eight times during the school year. You will receive progress reports at the midpoint of each grading period. We issue report cards every quarter. You will receive the first report card at a conference between the parents and teacher at the end of the first quarter. We send other report cards home at the end of each quarter. We encourage you to arrange times to meet with your child's teacher so you can work together to monitor progress.
